Foundation Stone Laid for IIT Jammu's New Infrastructure

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the foundation stone for the second phase of infrastructure development at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu, as reported by officials.

This initiative marks a significant advancement in expanding the capacity of one of India's third-generation IITs, which was established in 2016. During the ceremony held at the institute's campus, Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted IIT Jammu's emergence as a hub for innovation and startups.

The Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office noted, "Since its inception, IIT Jammu has been prioritized by the government, envisioned to fulfill long-term aspirations for a leading technical institution in the region."

He further mentioned that the first phase of construction, which included academic blocks, lecture halls, hostels, dining facilities, and utility buildings, has already been completed, facilitating rapid growth for the institute in its formative years.

The second phase, approved at a cost of ₹1,398 crores, will encompass new academic and residential infrastructure, laboratories, and a dedicated research park.
